Happy New Year's Eve! I'll be spending it where I spend all my Wednesday evenings - at BFF/BFFH/Nephbo's house. Of course, this time there will be a few more people around than normal, but not a ton. We do a relatively quiet celebration now that we're getting old - food, friends and board games that USED to be drinking games and haven't been in a good 10+ years :p
I had a lovely Christmas and I hope all of you did as well! I went home for Christmas, where the Internet was in relatively short supply but the reading time was not. And also I visited Trader Joe's and stocked up - 20 bottles of wine in the trunk of my car and a good thing I didn't get stopped when crossing state lines!
Mombo cooked up a christmas feast - roast venison (shot by Mombo, as usual), roast pork, rotkraut, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, yams, stuffing, corn, cranberry sauce and home-canned pears. With pie for dessert, not that we could eat it. I am listing this here not to make you all hungry (even though it's having that effect on me!) but for posterity.
The only drawback is the swmsis and mombo are having strained relations because, primarily, monetary issues. And Mombo keeps calling the swmsis's boyfriend Chickenhead. Not, thank god, to his face (or swmsis's) but to me when talking about it. I am torn between amusement and despair, because oh, mombo! This is not GOOD for you! I keep telling her to let it go and swmsis will either wise up or she won't, but there's nothing mombo can do about it and that being too critical will just strain things more but...we shall see.
Also, Mombo CHEATED for Christmas! We had a ONE BOOK pledge - that's all everybody was going to get for everybody else. A single book. Even at the time I was like "just one? I already know like 3 I want to get you" and Mombo was all 'oh, well, you can get those for my birthday or something, we're going to keep a lean christmas (except for food, obviously!) and not spend a lot of money we don't need to.
And then she went and got me not one book but THREE books, a bunch of really nice socks, a kitchen storage container thing and cookies. RIDICULOUS. She's fired.
At least her birthday is coming up soon!
2008 has been, overall, a not half-bad year. I am glad I came back to you guys and am going to try to be even more regular in 2009. I'm easing back in! And sending out massive hugs into the world. If you catch one, send it back to me.
