I may have mentioned something about torrential rains yesterday. The side effect of day after day of downpour is that you can't mow because of the rain but somehow the grass decides it'd be extra convenient to grow and grow and oh, keep on growing.

Well, yesterday was the first day in DAYS when it wasn't raining - although supposedly it was supposed to start in the early afternoon and then midafternoon and finally late afternoon, but it never did. When I got home from work (well, work and then the grocery store, because I needed stuff for dinner. Stuff which I never ended up making, however, because..)

Because it still wasn't raining when I got home! And it was time to mow the jungle that was my lawn. So I unpacked the groceries, put on some shorts and socks and sneakers and mowed the lawn. It's all well and good until I get to the back and I see a cable coiled in the grass like a snake! From the electric/telephone pole in my yard! Just LOOKING at me!

It wasn't sparking or anything but hello, I am not going to court death by getting near it. So I mowed all around it and then went inside resolving to call the utility company and get it taken care of, as soon as I took a 'omg, i am dying from heatstroke and grasstains' style bath. Then I take my bath. Then I try to find out who to call because apparently, you DON'T call the utility company, because there's no place to do that - just for if you want to dig or something. Lame. So I asked BFFH and he said to call the non-911 police and they'd send somebody out and they did (firemen) and now it's all blocked off with tape.

And then really late (like 10!) the electric company showed up and confirmed it was from the cable company and not an electric line and thus my Great Adventure was totally non-dangerous. But it COULD have been. I could have been electrocuted by mowing over a live electric wire! It's only by the sheerest chance that I am not being made into a LifeGem as we speak. The moral of this story is: Mowing is Deadly.

And today is absolutely beautiful outside, BEAUTIFUL. It looks like the 'it will rain forever' streak might even be over.
